Our caterpillars arrived! And guys, this little kit is such a bright spot for all of us, especially right now! P & K are more enthusiastic than ever about our garden and more inquisitive than ever when it comes to “how” and “why” things work. Bees and butterflies have been a huge topic of discussion and of course the thought of a Very Hungry Caterpillar (probably an all time favorite book of ours!) had their little minds all too curious about how it all works. So, online I went and I quickly found this kit, under $30, with great reviews and comes with everything you need! Also to note : if you’re looking at other kits online, make sure they actually ship with the caterpillars…I found that most “kits” arrived with a “voucher” to order live caterpillars…that’s why I love this kit, because it arrives ready to go with everything you need!
It shipped surprisingly quick (you’ll want to make sure your temps are between 40-85 degrees to ensure safe delivery), and comes with 5 caterpillars (ours arrived with six), the food needed and this nifty screened pop up tent. The instructions are easy and straightforward (you’ll want to place your caterpillars inside away from direct sunlight), and the kids are loving checking on them daily. And the best part for me, you don’t have to do anything for the caterpillars, they arrive in a lidded jar, with food inside, so all you need to do is wait for them to start making that cocoon. A happy little kit, that’s educating and entertaining all of us and bringing new life into our home!
