Our playroom has been one of the top requests on Instagram lately, so to make things easy for all, I thought it was time to share this space here along with all the sources. Hands down the most used space inside our home is our upstairs playroom! When we first moved into the house we used this space (the refinished attic of our cape cod) as a guest bedroom, and used a small sunroom downstairs for P & K’s play space. However, with the birth of baby three, that sunroom needed to be turned into a nursery. And in also wanting to remove all the toys from P & K’s bedroom…(for a long time my goal was to only have books and beds in their space to encourage a calm, relaxing…and lets be real, mess-free environment)…so the guest bedroom was nixed and a playroom created. BEST DECISION EVER! It’s now the family hub for play days and game nights. The big kids have a space all their own to play and I only have one space to manage for the toys. Now with Baby B turning one recently, this space is once again needing some re-arranging to accommodate toddler toys as well as some extra baby proofing…more on that another day. But in the meantime, here’s the simple way we’ve kept the playroom organized and styled to encourage boatloads of creative play.
For the longest time I didn’t have any photos up in the house…weird, right? But it was also during that season of life when the twins were babies then toddlers, and while I was great about taking the pics, I was horrible about getting them printed. Finally on a whim, and in wanting to find a very affordable option, because the commitment to specific photos scared me…I tried CVS! And guys, when I shared this on Instagram stories it went bananas! By taking advantage of same day printing and their coupon / photo deals, this project was done in just one day and was so simple it had me wondering what took me so long!
For the best deals/coupons, be sure to check their website (a lot of you also highly recommended Walgreens as well). And keep in mind, typically all prints go on sale, so if you have some flexibility with time, I’d wait until they do. Also, not all stores offer same day printing or poster prints…my neighborhood store didn’t offer same day poster prints…but a neighboring one did! And while I don’t expect these prints to last forever, I was extremely surprised with the quality and color of the prints!
Frames are a collection of inexpensive ones from Ikea (love that theirs have plexiglas over real glass, especially for a kid’s space!). And these square frames from here! And to give the space a casual vibe, I leaned the frames, attaching them to the walls (and each other) by using these amazing velcro strips!!
For storage these Ikea Eket Units were just the thing!
And for baskets we used these Chevron Belly Baskets from Container Store…you can also find similar ones here and larger ones here online.
The beanbags (color Bay Blue) and floor pillow make the space so cozy. And this oversized play table is perfect for building all the things! I love that it has a lip around the edge to keep things from falling off.
And that finally brings me to toys. Often I’m asked about what brands we like to go with. While I’m not 100% exclusive to wood toys, I do like to invest in less toys, that are better quality. This crane can be found here for a fraction of the price that Pottery Barn offers it for. Same for this dump and digger truck. That set’s been a favorite in our household for over three years now! Another insider info…the other brands I love that are also sold at luxury kid stores, Pottery Barn Kids, Crate & Barrel kids, among others, are the following : Hape, Haba & Plan Toys. And the best part you can find all those brands here, typically at a fraction of the price!
And of course, the basket I get so many inquiries about can be found here. A favorite of the kids inside and out in the garden, I love that it has wheels to be taken on adventure with, and that it’s the perfect child size. Well there ya, go, our current playroom setup! Happy Day Friends!
