2020 EDITION
This year my four and a half year old twins have been more excited than ever to decorate for Halloween. Since August they’ve been scheming up a plan for a “very spooky Halloween house”. I love this age where silly is still more fun than scary and when it comes to the Halloween decorations I’m hands down in the kid-friendly camp! Truth be told, Halloween was never a huge, or frankly favorite of mine, but after moving in a neighborhood where everyone goes all out, it’s now one of the seasons I look forward to most! Throughout October everyone’s yards begin to get decorated and come Halloween the streets shut down to make way for an abundance of trick or treaters from neighboring streets! It’s all so fun!
This year’s theme I give all the credit to K! For whatever reason she was determined to have a “spooky spider house”. So imagine my relief when I found these perfect oversize spiders !! We used two sizes, XL found here and the large here. The webs can be found here, and were so easy to attach to the house using zip ties and these command hooks! Essentially we tightened one black zip tie around a leg then looped another zip tie through the first, tightening slightly to create a ring (think those silly construction paper chains you would make as a kid)…then we simply hung the second zip tie to a command hook. We did two legs for each spider, and because the spiders are made of styrofoam, they were light enough for this to work for us. Of course for your exterior, test command hooks first. It helps to clean the spot where it’s going for a better stick. And for places like our flag holder and mailbox, we skipped the command hooks and simply used the zip ties to attach the spiders to it. Seriously, this was one of the easiest installs we’ve done for Halloween! And even after a few windy thunderstorms, our decorations have held strong!
Wishing you a very spooky Halloween!!
