My ideal weekend always includes a trip to a farmers’ market and this past year, Freedom Farmers Market here in Atlanta has become my favorite go-to! Located at the Carter’s Center, it’s opened year round from 8:30am-12pm.
There’s something so magical about lingering about, seeking out beautiful seasonal goods and there’s always a deep satisfaction in buying local. It just tastes better, and I always find so much inspiration for my own cooking as well as my own garden at a farmers market.
I always find myself making a beeline for The Little Bread Box from Star Provisions. You can’t go wrong, but my weekly favorite are the croisants! The ham and cheese is a must! And my kiddos devour the muffins and chocolate croissants. Be sure to pick a loaf or two for the week. Their french bread makes for the best homemade croutons!
Of course a flower bouquet is required!
And I love seeking out local unique items, while also sharing info with the local farmers about when they plant, harvest etc. Need to put garlic on my own garden to-grow list!
And of course a couple totes or bags are needed to haul all your goodies. This is my favorite sourse for french basket totes. And I also recently bought a few of these canvas totes to always have in hand. They roll up beautifully and I keep them in my car for unexpected errands and grocery stops during the week.
Another must stop booth at Freedom Farmers Market Atlanta is Pine Street Market. They have the best quality meat selections. I typically go for their sweetheart ham, pancetta and pulled pork. For an easy weeknight dinner, I take their pulled pork, heat in a pan with juice from pickled jalepenos for an easy take on Carnitas. Serve with warm tortialls, top with cotija cheese, pickled red onions, lime and cilantro. Top with fresh sliced jalepenos if you like a kick! YUM!!
And for cold items, I use this small collapsable cooler that is sized right for the items we purchase. Plus I love the strawberry print!
Once we have our goodies, we head over to the Carter’s Center Lawn for coffee and breakfast.
Happy Weekend Friends!
